Stunning sound and a focused, deliberate performance combine to make this a highlight of the extant acoustic sets. A smooth recording that captures Dylan in what seems to be a more mellow, "stoned" mood than Sydney. The trio of electric tracks, full-bodied and well-balanced recordings, make for some great listening. The Adelaide interview is interesting.

The first 20-25 mins sound quite muffle, unlike the rest of the recording. Therefore I gave it a lesser rating than the Ugly Kid Joe recording. A LOT of singing and screaming around me constantly, as well as some shifting in the sound. It was a pandemonium of voices (you'll hear it yourselves). I don't know who is worse, the guy singing EVERY word or the chicks screaming like crazy. Above all this, the "smart" guard decided to throw water at the people, so that forced me to hide the recorder for a few seconds. Some of the highlights: "Estranged", "Better", "Live and Let Die" and "Paradise City" to name a few.

General Notes:
The second ever GN'R concert in Israel (both at the same location). This time they headlined the first edition of an annual event called "Summerock". Hope this will indeed repeat itself next year with more bands. Axl Rose showed up in time, even earlier than other bands I've seen before. The guys felt great and played the usual set, as far as I know. Lots of cool fireworks and visual effects from start to finish.

Here's last sunday's SIMPLE MINDS show from Koeln (for some of you known as Cologne). As they stated before, the setlist consists of songs pulled only from their first 5 albums. So, not the real big hits are played here, but and interesting mesh from before their stadium days. Even if a lot of people hoped for "Alive and kicking" or else, the band followed their strict rule; something really sympathetic. Beyond this I can't tell you anything more, as I don't know much beyond the airwave songs, and most likely will never know. But - as sometimes with some recordings - I don't see any reason why not to post this show. As our team knows, there are a lot of Simple Minds-Afficinadoes here, who will love to listen to this. Maybe some of you were there??? For all of you: Enjoy it. These two performances are an eye-opener if you've never heard them before. What you get is a wowser recording of an in-shape, ready to kill you Jim Morrison. The man is out for blood and it shows. The only thing wrong here, and it's the ONLY thing is that Jim is off mike for the first "When The Music's Over". The recording is clear enough that you can just about hear him, but alas there is nothing that can be done about that now. The material itself is stellar and the band is in top form. Enjoy this show, it's a mind-ripper.

Okay, we're talking "essential", right? After the success of the late 1980s and early 1990s - especially "Unplugged" - EC was finally free to pursue his passion, blues! After esting the waters with some "all blues" nights at the Royal Albert Hall, and then the mixed blues/pop/rock sets from 1993, in 1994 it was time to jump in all the way. After a long summer arena tour with a setlist consisting only of his favorite blues numbers, in early November Clapton set out on a mini-tour of not arenas, not sheds, but small clubs - the places where this music was born, and meant to be played. The first three nights were also notable, as on November 7/8/9 they took place at the Fillmore, in San Francisco, and were recorded and filmed for a movie by acclaimed director Martin Scorcese. This night, the first of the three night run, was recorded on videotape by the crew so that they could plan their camera moves and "blocking" for the remaining two nights. The videotape source has been available to collectors in varying quality for years, and has been used s the source for several boots, perhaps the most notable of which is "Blues From the Heart" (Parrott / Red Robin). The folks at 3BR obtained access to a very low generation, much cleaner source than used for "Blues From the Heart", and after a bunch of work, released the result as "Blues At the Fillmore" for fans. Even if you already have a copy of this title, this may be a nice upgrade for you, direct from the masters with known lineage.
